- How did you first get involved in pro bono?
As a paralegal, I heard about DVAP through a legal clinic offered at my church. I assisted with the intake process and quickly realized how important pro bono work is to my community. Building on that experience, I was ecstatic for the opportunity to do pro bono work during law school. I worked at a legal clinic where I got the opportunity to help those who needed legal representation but did not have the financial means to hire an attorney. It is so fulfilling to be able to offer legal services pro bono for those who truly need it.
-
- What types of cases have you accepted?
My pro bono work is focused solely on family law cases. Family law is an area of the law that I am very passionate about, so I love being able to provide my legal services on a pro bono basis to help those in need. I have represented clients on a variety of matters such as child custody cases, establishing and/or enforcing visitation rights, divorce, and adoption. Families are such a huge part of our community, so it is truly an honor to represent my clients in this area.
-
- Why do you do pro bono?
Divorces can be an extremely challenging and emotional time. When my clients tell me they can feel the weight lifted from shoulders by speaking with me about their situation, I feel a great sense of pride and fulfillment. It is an honor knowing that I am helping someone who otherwise would have to remain married simply because of lack of financial resources. At the end of a case, I really enjoy getting photos and updates of their children growing, thriving, and smiling.

- What impact has pro bono service had on your career?
It is a blessing to be able to offer my legal services pro bono. I absolutely love giving back, and I also love assisting clients with family law cases. The fulfillment I get from doing pro bono work is gratifying. I truly love what I do, so it doesn’t feel like work.
-
- What is the most unexpected benefit you have received from doing pro bono?
I have learned to listen more, both at work and at home, and I have become more empathetic to people, acknowledging their need to be seen and heard. Regardless of someone’s financial means, everyone deserves top-notch representation.
